Understanding Brand Collaborations
Collaborative partnerships have become an inherent part of the footwear business as brands have leveraged the cultural appeal and success of athletes and/or celebrities to market their product. Endorsement deals between athletes and sportswear brands date back to the 1920s when Chuck Taylor partnered with Converse. Since then, other major brands have followed suit. Adidas with Stan Smith. Michael Jordan with Nike. etc.
Fast forward to modern day and now the footwear market has expanded its collaborative efforts beyond working with just athletes. The most popular projects of the last 2 years have been collaborations with individual designers, streetwear brands, and other creatives.
The objective of this project is to design a limited edition sneaker that leverages the design and brand DNA of New Balance. The shoe is a representation of New Balance’s rich history and a story of my own personal experiences.

CMF Story
I wanted to tell a story about my travels and the places that have had a lasting affect on me. Because traveling is such an important part of my life and interest outside of design, I gathered images from some of the places I had visiting to grab color inspiration.
